Big Rivers region
The Big Rivers region Destination Management Plan (released in 2020) identified key strengths and assets across the region, and provided a comprehensive overview of comparative advantages, product development opportunities and visitor profiles.
In 2023-24, the Destination Management Plan (DMP) underwent a three yearly review to ensure the prioritisation of product development opportunities align with the region's growth and that the DMP remains relevant.
The updated DMP looks to confirm the key strengths and assets across the region and identifies current and future project opportunities and areas of investment for the sustainable tourism development of the region.
Since the initial release of the DMP, there have been significant achievements for the tourism sector in the region as outlined in the annual report cards, below.
Comparative advantages for the region include:
- accessibility and attractiveness of drive touring in the region
- Aboriginal cultural attractions and experiences
- extensive historical and heritage experiences
- the hospitality and uniqueness of the region
- the quality, quantity and diversity of natural attractions of the region.
