NT shines at national tourism awards
- 25 February 2017
The gala Awards night was extra special for the NT, held in Darwin for the very first time at the Darwin Convention Centre.
In front of a home crowd, Territory operators took home two gold awards, two silver and three bronze proving once again the Territory is a world-class holiday destination.
Voyages Ayers Rock Resort entered the Awards Hall of Fame taking home Gold in the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Tourism category while the Territory's other Gold went to the Alice Springs Visitor Information Centre in the Visitor Information Service category for the second year in a row.
Minister for Tourism and Culture, Lauren Moss MLA, said the ceremony, which attracted more than 700 industry leaders, was a major coup for the NT.
"To host the 2016 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in Darwin for the first time was a huge honour and a wonderful opportunity to showcase the Northern Territory for all its charm and beauty," sahe said.
"The Territory has always punched above its weight in terms of attracting national and international visitors, but it’s crucial that we continue to nurture new markets and grow and evolve our tourism offerings to keep our industry viable and strong.
"Congratulates to all the Northern Territory Award winners on their amazing achievement."
