A Masterplan outlining the strategic direction for the Northern Territory Government’s 85 parks and reserves has been finalised, providing long-term certainty and purpose to park management, Traditional Owners, Territorians and potential investors.

Also released alongside the Masterplan is the Northern Territory Parks 10 Year Activation Plan, which maps out infrastructure development for the first decade of the Masterplan.

Parks and reserves contribute enormously to the social, cultural and economic fabric of the Territory, and are vital to its future.

The Masterplan has been informed by extensive community and stakeholder consultation, and Territorians have shown they are passionate about our Parks and Reserves, making up 96 per cent of nearly 600 submissions on the initial discussion paper.

It provides a strategic framework to guide future programs, projects and partnerships, that will conserve the natural environment, maintain cultural values and provide opportunities for new and enhanced visitor experiences.

Nine key themes have been identified, that will guide the effort and resourcing of the parks estate for the next 30 years – you can read the full masterplan here depws.nt.gov.au/parks-and-wildlife-commission/park-management-strategies/master-plan
