New Paspaley tour flying high
- 27 February 2018
The new flying boat venture offers a unique scenic tour above Darwin on board a 1947 Grumman Mallard flying boat.
There are only 16 Grumman Mallards flying boats in operation across the globe.
The Paspaley fleet of Grumman Mallards were the lifeblood of its pearling operations, which started in the Northern Territory in the 1930s, and have undergone extensive upgrades and refurbishments..
Executive Director of Paspaley, James Paspaley, said the new scenic coastal flights would coincide with cruise ship visits to Darwin.
“My family has been living and working in North Australia for three generations. In our experience, the Top End offers visitors the opportunity to explore one of the few untouched wildernesses, as spectacular as it is remote," he said.
"We are excited to offer visitors to Darwin the rare opportunity to fly in one of our Grumman Mallard Flying Boats and experience the Top End’s rugged wilderness in style and comfort."
The cruise ship season in the NT traditionally runs from October and July, bringing 54,000 cruise ship passengers to the Top End and injected an estimated $87.6 million per year in to the local economy.
