Double delight for cruise season
- 21 February 2018
In a double delight for the local tourism industry, both the Radiance of the Seas and Viking Sun will spend the day in Darwin.
The Top End stopover is the first visit to the NT for the Viking Sun as the luxury European liner makes its maiden voyage to Australia.
The two cruise ships are the first of 20 due to dock in Darwin over the next three months bringing with them 27,000 passengers and 10,000 crew to deliver a timely boost for the Territory’s shoulder tourism season.
Overall, the 2017-18 season will see 54,000 passengers visit the Top End on cruise ship visits.
This includes the arrival of the iconic Queen Mary 2 on Saturday 17 March and the return of the Ovation of the Seas on Tuesday 3 April, bringing with it 4,000 passengers.
The Northern Territory cruise ship season runs from October to July, and is estimated to inject $87.6 million into the local economy annually.
