Date set for 2017 Mitchell Street Mile

The iconic fun run, a major highlight on the Darwin event calendar, will be held on Sunday 17 September.

The certified 1 mile (1.6km) race attracts thousands of participants, locals and visitors each year and has grown to become an international event attracting top-class athletes, from Australia and overseas.

More than 3,500 spectators line Mitchell Street to watch 800 competitors from two years to 79 years old.

The event includes seven fun runs to cater for a range of categories culminating in two elite races for men and women. The fancy dress race category is always one of the highlights of the day, adding to the fun and entertainment of the event.

With $7,500 up for grabs for each elite winner as well as other cash prizes, the Mitchell Street Mile is richest road mile in the world and the hottest in the southern hemisphere.

Registrations will be open from early June.
