Destination Management Plans

Road Trip to Kata Tjuta

Destination Management Plans (DMPs) have been developed for 6 regions across the Northern Territory following the release of the NT's Tourism Industry Strategy 2030. The DMPs focus on the development priorities for sustainable growth of tourism in the regions over a ten-year horizon.

Developed in collaboration with key tourism stakeholders and operators, the DMPs identify key strengths and assets across the regions, and provide a comprehensive overview of comparative advantages, product development opportunities and visitor profiles.

Each plan is periodically reviewed to ensure the priority opportunities align with the region's growth and the DMPs remain relevant in the current tourism environment. In 2024 the Lasseter, Alice Springs and MacDonnell Ranges, Barkly and Big Rivers region DMPs were refreshed to ensure currency and refocus priorities for the coming years.

The refresh of the DMPs includes a review of the opportunities and gaps, product development opportunities and action plan, in partnership with multiple stakeholders to meet current visitor demand while encouraging the development of a sustainable tourism sector for the regions.
