Visitor Experience Enhancement Program, Northern Territory, Australia

As part of the Turbocharging Tourism action plan the Northern Territory Government is providing $3 million over two years through the Visitor Experience Enhancement Program, to assist the tourism industry undertake projects that will improve the on-ground visitor experience in the NT.

The Visitor Experience Enhancement Program seeks to enable the tourism industry to improve its customer experience, so that more visitors have positive experiences and will recommend the Territory to others. Priority will be given to projects which demonstrate the greatest need for visitor enhancement.

A total pool of $3 million (GST exclusive) is available, with one-off funding of up to $50 000 (ex GST) available per business.

To be successful, projects must:

  • Be strategic in nature by delivering benefits to an individual business, multiple businesses or to a region;
  • Be able to demonstrate through existing customer feedback the need for the visitor experience enhancement;
  • Demonstrate how the proposal will enhance the visitor experience, increase favourable reviews and increase visitor numbers;
  • Be able to be completed by 30 June 2019; and
  • Include a matching cash co-contribution from the business (for applications of over $10,000 excluding GST).

Applicants must be able to demonstrate how the project will enhance the visitor experience, and provide evidence of customer feedback that the project will address. The program will operate via a merit based nomination process.

Nominations for round 1 have closed on 30 April 2018. Round 2 will be open from 1 July - 1 October 2018.

• Improve lighting and kitchen equipment, Marksie's Stockman's Camp Tucker Night ($7,500)

• Upgrades to existing passenger vehicle, Offshore Boats Pty Ltd ($9,567)

• Deliver two additional deluxe cabins, Devils Marbles Hotel ($50,000)

• Upgrades to furniture and common use facilities, Frogs Hollow Backpackers ($10,000)

• Resort pool works, Palms City Resort ($45,454)

• Repair bath surrounds in guest rooms, Aurora Alice Springs Hotel ($13,350)

• Installation of a new integrated audio visual system, Pee Wees ($50,000)

• Upgrades to accommodation and camping facilities as well as bushwalking tracks, Ross River Resort ($50,000)

• General upgrades, Adelaide River Tours ($9,090)

• Retrofitting of horse carriages, M P Gallagher ($9,000)

• Information services upgrade at Doubletree by Hilton Darwin ($50,000)

• Upgrade Point of Sale System (POS), Hot Tamale restaurant ($11,000)

• Permanent beautification of outdoor dining space, Rachael's Seafood Shack ($8,070)

• Reception area renovation, Gecko Canoeing ($10,000)

• Improvements to Leaders Creek Fishing Base, Bultech Pty Ltd ($50,000)

• New pontoon at Corroboree Billabong, Wildlands Pty Ltd ($50,000)
